A call for African youth aged 18-30! We aim to empower 1000 young Africans before Kyoto #IGF2023 to actively & meaningfully engage in Internet Governance and cultivate Africa’s Internet governance ecosystem.
The Pan-African Youth Ambassador for Internet Governance (PAYAIG) initiative, developed by Cyber Czar and made possible through the generous backing of the UK government, in collaboration with AUC PRIDA, IGF Secretariat, as well as numerous regional NRIs and IGF stakeholders who contributed to its implementation. Our goal is to empower 1000 young Africans aged 18-30 before Kyoto, to engage in internet governance and cultivate Africa’s internet governance ecosystem actively and meaningfully. The training will be conducted in five different languages – Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, and Swahili – giving participants the freedom to select their preferred language of instruction. This aligns with this year’s IGF overarching theme, “The Internet We Want- Empowering All People”.
This initiative was established in response to one of the recommendations made during the 17th IGF stocktaking, which emphasized the need for “direct training and sensitization sessions on IGF themes and mechanisms, with a particular focus on youth, newcomers, and journalists.” This aligns with this year’s IGF overarching theme, “The Internet We Want – Empowering All People”.
To promote multi-stakeholderism, inclusivity, and cultural and linguistic diversity, the online Internet Governance Fellowship Program will be conducted in five languages: Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, and Swahili.
This program covers internet governance’s complex and multidisciplinary field, including infrastructure, policy, legal frameworks, IGF processes, and key actors. It also features African case studies, offering a unique perspective on regional issues. This fellowship offers professional development and equips participants to become dynamic leaders in internet governance and contribute to Africa’s ecosystem.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Applicants are invited to submit applications according to the following criteria:
Be between the ages of 18 and 30.
Be African citizens residing in Africa.
Demonstrate a strong interest in internet governance issues.
Be able to communicate effectively in one of the following five languages: Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, or Swahili.
Be able to commit to all four phases of the program.
Have access to a reliable internet connection.
